The solution? You will caramelize the sides! IT’S FANTASTIC. It’s like eating crème brûlée crème brûlée, right there on your French toast. You don’t even need syrup. I’ll show you exactly how to do it!

French Toast Without Milk

Use the right bread to avoid hard parts. Challah, brioche, or whole wheat bread are your best bets. Challah and brioche contain much less flour and more water than your average bread, which makes it very soft, like clouds.

I don’t like to use French bread, or any of the bread they sell at your grocery store. I know, I know, this is French toast, we have to use French bread, right? Well, the joke’s on you, America. (See below to read more about Americans saying French things that aren’t French.)

You can see the difference in the previous bread I made. There is also a type of brioche bread that I used.

The bread of your typical French bread is very hard and chewy. No one wants to use a knife to cut outside the edge of their toast. It should work fine.

How To Make The Best French Toast

The good thing about starting with a loaf of bread is that you can divide it yourself. Large slices of bread are 3/4 inch or smaller. I cut mine into 1 and 1/4-inch slices. You can reach 2 inches.

There is nothing I hate more than eating French toast and tasting a poached egg on the edge. No matter how long you beat the eggs, the whites insist on clumping together. Then when you cook it, the egg on the side cooks faster than your toast, leaving you with a scrambled egg on the side. Nooooooo

The answer is to use only egg yolks. The result is a very rich and delicious mixture. Basically, you will melt your bread in a bowl of cream.

Here’s my French dream: I want nice, yellow lines that aren’t TOO hard. I want a perfect THICK base that is as soft as a baked cloud. I want a rich, consistent flavor from my french toast recipe. And if I taste scrambled eggs, get out of here.

I’m sorry to say, but this lip balm that Jade told me about has officially turned me into a French toast lover. So if you LOVE french toast SO MUCH, imagine how much you will love it! He said the first time he was in England and heard someone call him “French Toast”, he was very upset! (We also talked about how Americans like to add “French” to the title of their recipes to make them sound fancy, like Old French Silk. I sent him the recipe and he said, “Oh that sounds good! The secret to avoiding soggy French toast is to cook it low and slow. Your oven should not be set to low-medium heat. Yes, it takes a long time to cook, but it is important not to have soggy, undercooked centers with burnt parts.

Making French Toast

About 10 to 20 seconds, but it depends on how thick your bread slices are. Before removing the bread from the egg, press it with your finger. It should be easy when you start, but you still hold together. It should be wet but not spread.

You can put the soaked bread on a glass or baking paper when you finish washing them all, and wait until they are all washed, to sell all the bread.
